Sunday's Prayer

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: grant that all of us may be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Koro/Bobi ADP

The mission team approved the church partnering with World Vision Uganda for five years with the Koro/Bobi ADP.  Specifically, we will be involved with the St. Thomas Moore Senior Secondary School which needs are very great.  They need a science building, a library, a girls dorm and a boys dorm, in addition to a number of other needs.  I am hoping that we can send a small team next February or March to meet with the director of the ADP, Kristine Lumunu, and her staff as well as visit the school, meet the headmaster, Todo Alex, the teachers and students, and to actually help in some of the construction.  The picture above is of some of the students at the school.  Below are pictures of Todo Alex (the man with the coat and tie standing with a couple of students), and Kristine Lumunu.

True love is a matter of loving the very person you see. The emphasis is not on loving the perfections, but on loving the person you see, no matter what perfections or imperfections that person might possess.

Thought for the Day

It is well known that Christ consistently used the expression "follower."  He never asks for admirers, worshippers, or adherents.  No, he calls disciples.  It is not adherents of a teaching but followers of a life Christ is looking for.

Music is as well or better able to praise [God] than the building of the church and all its decorations: it is the Church's greatest ornament...religious music without religion is almost always vulgar.

The Personal Debt Problem

David Brooks has an excellent Op-Ed piece, "The Great Seduction," in the New York Times today. I am also very concerned about the debt culture that we have created and the way that government and culture aid and abet this seduction as Brooks calls it. I think it has important implications for disciples of Jesus both in the testimony of our lives and how it affects are ability to generously give to help others.
