The Personal Debt Problem

David Brooks has an excellent Op-Ed piece, "The Great Seduction," in the New York Times today. I am also very concerned about the debt culture that we have created and the way that government and culture aid and abet this seduction as Brooks calls it. I think it has important implications for disciples of Jesus both in the testimony of our lives and how it affects are ability to generously give to help others.

I read the op ed piece the full report. As much as it is instructional to educate the public on this situation, I have always found it fascinating that within a given family, children often exercise widely different attitudes toward spending and saving. Despite an identical home environment (where attitudes toward money are learned) - one child will invariably become a saver and one a spender. Amazing!
