Sunday's Prayer

Grant to us, O God, to know that which is worth knowing, to love that which is worth loving, to praise that which can bear with praise, to hate what in Your sight is unworthy, to prize what to You is precious, and above all to search out and to do what is well-pleasing to You, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is wonderful, except one part: "Grant to us, O God, ...to hate what in Your sight is unworthy..."

"Hate" is an awfully strong word. We are to discern what is right and what is wrong, but not judge, let alone "hate", correct?

But what does "hate" mean. How are we to hate, what does that look like?

"Hate what is evil." - Romans 12.9

Yet, how are we to reconcile this with the Jesus Creed.

I'm all for thoughtfully and emotionally being strong—standing—against that which is wrong in God's sight, especially what evil is done by men or women. Yet how are we as Christians to live this out in a way that is true to Discipleship and fulfills God's will?
