Thought for the Day

Pure logical thinking cannot yield us any knowledge of the empirical world; all knowledge of reality starts from experience and ends in it. Propositions arrived at by purely logical means are completely empty as regards reality.

Hi Phil;
Not sure if you read National Geographic or not but the Feb. issue has a very interesting interview with a scientist named Francis Collins, leader of the Genome Project. He has written a book called "The Language of God." One quote that I thought was interesting in the article was the following: "In my own experience as a physician, I have not seen a miraculous healing, and I don't expect to see one. Also, prayer for me is not a way to manipulate God into doing what we want Him to do. Prayer for me is much more a sense of trying to get into fellowship with God. I'm trying to figure out what I should be doing rather than telling Almighty God what he should be doing. Look at the Lord's Prayer. It says "Thy will be done." It wasn't, "Our Father who art in heaven, please get me a parking space."
I recommend the article because it profiles a scientist who has a unique balance between his faith and his vocation in science.
Best,
Dave Hammmond
